About Parallel Counseling

Founded in 2021, Parallel Counseling was created to meet a critical need in our rural Colorado community—offering accessible, relationship-based support for young children and families without requiring a long drive to services.

We saw firsthand the gap in services when families needed more than consultation but didn’t have local therapy options. Parallel Counseling was built to fill that gap—providing compassionate, attachment-focused care that strengthens the parent-child relationship as the foundation for healing.

In 2025, we are expanding our services to better meet community needs. This includes supporting families with Medicaid, partnering with additional insurance providers, strengthening relationships with Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and placing clinicians in local elementary schools to provide on-site support where it’s needed most.

At Parallel Counseling, we meet each child, caregiver, and family where they are, creating a safe, authentic space for growth, resilience, and connection.

Serving Fraser, Granby, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Tabernash and Winter Park, Colorado

Kyle Ohl, LPC, Founder

Kyle-O.png

I began my journey in Early Childhood Mental Health in 2010, drawn to the preventative power of secure relationships building resilient, emotionally healthy children.

In 2015, I moved to Grand County, CO, where I now raise my family, work, and play. Recognizing the critical need for accessible relationship-based therapy in my community, I expanded my focus to attachment-centered therapy, where the relationship itself is the client. This approach fosters healing and growth for both the child and caregiver, strengthening connection and emotional well-being.

I specialize in supporting children ages 0-8 and new and expecting families as they navigate challenges, heal from past hurts, and build secure attachments. I am honored to bring my expertise close to home, meeting families where they are with authenticity, acceptance, and deep respect for their unique journey.

Julia Macchione, LPCC

Hi, I’m Julia Macchione, a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), Synergetic Play Therapy enthusiast, and firm believer that children are doing the best they can with the tools they’ve got.

After more than a decade working across the early childhood landscape—as a teacher, director, coach, and consultant—I found myself constantly drawn to the “why” behind big behaviors. That curiosity led me to clinical mental health counseling, where I now get to combine my love of early childhood with my deep respect for nervous systems (tiny ones and grown-up ones alike).

I specialize in Synergetic Play Therapy, a brain-body-based approach rooted in nervous system regulation, authenticity, and connection. It’s not about getting kids to “behave”—it’s about helping them feel safe enough to be. Through relationship and play, we co-create a space where children (and their caregivers) can explore, express, and heal—often in the language kids know best: movement, mess, and imagination.

Originally from the Boulder/Nederland area, I now live in Granby, CO with my husband, our strong-willed daughter, sweet-hearted son, and a house that looks like a collector's paradise (in the best way). I’m passionate about supporting families in understanding behavior through the lens of connection, regulation, and relational safety.
